Vascular thrombosis diagnosis with Micro-fluidics

Microfluidic_Chip_iX-factory

Conditions associated with vascular thrombosis and adhesion can be difficult to diagnose, treat, and monitor. Thrombosis formation is a complex process that responds to many variables in both the composition of the blood, as well as the pulsatile flow conditions in the vessel.  The client is developing novel devices and protocols to address the need for measuring thrombosis and adhesion formation in whole blood under pulsatile flow.

This assay can assess the behavior of blood while it is flowing, and mimics in vivo behavior while currently available tests use in vitro methods. The system uses micro-fluidics to analyze whole blood adhesion and thrombosis and is a much better predictor of blood behavior physiology.

The client was interested in understanding potential field applications in the following disease areas:

  • Atrial fibrillation (AF)
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • Sickle cell anemia (SCA)

Outputs included:

  • Primary Research with synthesis of technology adoption insights from key industry experts
  • Secondary Research with a synthesis of industry articles and presentations
  • Actionable Next steps and Recommendations
