Kevin E Howard, PhD currently serves as Principal Research Scientist for Inorganic Materials – Core R&D at The Dow Chemical Company. His twenty-five years of industrial R&D experience includes global program leadership in new technology development and commercialization of advanced inorganic, electronic, electroactive, and composite materials; multi-team program management (including government contract), corporate-university relationships, campus recruiting, and technology and IP assessments / due-diligence for investment potential.
Dr. Howard’s technical leadership spans the entire industrial spectrum from laboratory invention to scale-up, manufacturing and commercialization; technical service, marketing, and out-licensing. Among his areas of technical expertise: active inorganic materials, metal-chalcogenide chemistry, and inorganic synthesis – both solution and solid state. Application areas of particular focus have included electronics, thermal management, photovoltaics, energy storage, dielectrics, and LED materials. Dr. Howard is also a globally recognized expertise in aluminum nitride (AlN) for thermal management.
With over two decades of domestic and international (Europe and Asia) experience in interfacing with external customers – and the resultant translation of product performance needs to fundamental and applied research leading to new product and material design. Commercially-proven innovator and technology champion.
In addition to his research efforts at Dow, Kevin has over twelve years of experience leading Dow’s recruiting efforts and serving as liaison for many of Dow’s scientific relationships with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
