The instrument can be configured to make additional measurements of parameters including ocean temperature, water flow speeds, salinity, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll biomass, dissolved organic matter classification phosphate and nitrates. The instrument is intended to be installed on a ship, buoy or possibly aircraft for capturing continuous, real time measurements. However there are several barriers to overcome to address the commercial applications within these markets.  Two of the most significant barriers are likely to be the high cost of the instrument and the qualification/acceptance of its performance. Cost is a concern since the initial instrument in low volumes may cost 10x what is currently typically paid for high end hydrographic or water measurement instruments. Performance is a concern since the technique is new and there are many variables that can affect performance.
