The Community Monthly Newsletter, Nov. ’15
Did you know that November 2 is the only date on which two US presidents were born: Warren Harding and James Polk? Just a little bit of history fun to share at the dinner table. Another topic of discussion you can share is all of the news we have to share with you for the month of November!
*Feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone that might be interested! We would also encourage you to share our monthly newsletters on your social media platforms so others may become aware of the IIR Community,*
As always, please come to me with any questions or concerns you may have (email@example.com).

The Second IIR Focus Group was Great!
We recently held our second IIR Focus Group and focused on Job Searching (something we can all relate to or are in the process of doing). Check out our blog on the event to find out what problems we were facing and what solutions we came up with! Make sure you RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org for the next IIR Focus Group.
We are switching from SocialCast to Google Docs!
To better improve the IIR collaboration on Market Discovery Challenges, we are switching tools from SocialCast to Google Docs. This transition will simplify interaction between our IIRs and will allow for more direct engagement with the client decks. For further input or feedback feel free to reach out to email@example.com.
Maybe you missed our blog on Job Searching…
TSL recently held our second IIR Focus group on Job Searching and we were able to share our questions, concerns, advice, and external references with each other. Read about some of the things we discussed plus more tips and tools in our blog! Also check out our padlet page we used to compile all of our ideas! Be on the lookout for our next IIR Focus group and meet other IIRs and get to know the TSL team better, while of course sharing useful information.

What we’re working on…
Lead Catalyst: Divya
IIRs: Anuhya, Isabella, Edward, Prashi
Summary: The SearchLite is conducting a Customer Validation for Click Care LLC on behalf of Michigan Pediatric Device Consortium (MPED). Click Care LLC has developed an ultrasonic, battery-powered smart toothbrush called “LifeBrush” that can sense where the toothbrush head is in a user’s mouth plus an app that provides feedback to the user thus improve toothbrushing compliance.
Lead Catalyst: Scott and Ksenia
IIRs: Ajith, Prianca, Sofiane (If you would like to join the project please contact Ksenia firstname.lastname@example.org or Scott email@example.com)
Summary: Industrial machine intelligence is progressing at an exponential rate, but how safe is it? The SearchLite is conducting a Market Discovery Challenge for our client in the market domain of pneumatic safety products. Our client is exploring the next generation of “lock-out, tag-out” safety equipment within the fast growing market domain of factory automation. The information TSL collects on best-fit market applications and value proposition, as well as the target market dynamics will be used to inform new product development planning and direction for our clients safety products initiative.

Community Building Workshop will be held @ Michigan State
Scott, Visha, and MJ will head to MSU to kickoff a workshop on how to grow the IIR community at MSU on Tuesday December 8th! TSL has become a familiar name at MSU through connections with the college of engineering and has maintained career development interactions with MSU college of engineering and the career services department. Through this event we hope to discuss how we can further spread awareness of our IIR Program and connect with MSU students. Our contact at the career services department is Julia McAnallen, Graduate Career Services Coordinator, and at the college of engineering our contact is Katy Colbry, Director for Graduate Initiatives in the college of engineering. As all of you know, the Learning Management System is a crucial part of the IIR experience and we strongly encourage our innovators to participate. It is an easy and fast way to become aware of what exactly The SearchLite does and what terminology we are using and why. Several IIRS have shown outstanding performance and have completed all of the courses to date on our new Learning Management System. We applaud you for your achievements!
An IIR that has gone above and beyond…
“My experience at TSL has been fantastic so far. I got to work on projects from diverse fields such as Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering and Medical Devices. These projects have helped me develop an understanding of situation/working/challenges of industries outside my area of expertise. Working with TSL has been a platform for me to develop the skills needed to thrive in a non-academic career and an opportunity to separate myself from peers. I truly appreciate everything TSL does to improve the overall learning process by constant mentoring and providing access to several books, online learning materials. I look forward to working on may more projects.”
