Summary: Our WeCareAdvisor is a recent invention which helps caregivers manage behavioral symptoms in family members or patients with dementia. Dementia is the loss of cognition function accompanied by disruptive behavioral symptoms such as depression, agitation, aggression, psychosis, disinhibition, sleep disturbance and apathy. WeCareAdvisor is a web-based tool to help the caregivers assess, manage and monitor the patients’ status and provide assistance accordingly. This tool has been tested in some nursing homes and received excellent feedback.

Summary: The detector is based on Raman Spectroscopy, which is a technique used to asses the concentration or amount of a chemical substance (atomic, molecular or ionic) in an unknown sample by illuminating it with a laser while monitoring the resulting Raman scattered photons. This project helps a team to file the proposal to detect CO2 in space setting to NASA.
Lead Catalyst: Ksenia Sharygina
Summary: The Jacar Systems helps stamping companies make money with Micro Transfer Systems. Their Patented Micro Transfer Systems can change problem dies into efficient running profit centers for companies. A transfer system will dramatically reduce material usages and tooling cost. Jacar engineered their systems to have a foot print 1/4 of the size of the older industrialized systems. This small foot print is the key to increasing company profits.

As all of you know, the Learning Management System is a crucial part of the IIR experience and we strongly encourage our innovators to participate. It is an easy and fast way to become aware of what exactly The SearchLite does and what terminology we are using and why. Several IIRS have shown outstanding performance and have completed all of the courses to date on our new Learning Management System. We applaud you for your achievements!
An IIR that has gone above and beyond…
“Patrick is responsible, creative, and self-motivated. He didn’t only finish his task efficiently, but also took the initiative to filter contacts and reach out. He was able to compile an index of 4 industry expert contacts for the team on his own. Two of the interviews that have already taken place were a huge success. He also voluntarily participated in the interview sessions and showed great passion while working on the project for We Care Advisor. I am looking forward tho his great work.”

“The SearchLite has been an amazing opportunity to apply the research and analytical skills I’ve honed in academia to the world of business development and market discovery. It’s been an invaluable learning experience to work with a team of talented individuals toward a common goal and one that I will certainly take with me as I progress through my career.”

Innovator-in-Residence Alumni Spotlight:
IIR Alumni… where are they now?
Yioryos is a Senior Researcher at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research, Center for Political studies. Some of the projects he is currently working on includes: Qatar University Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES), and Constituency-Level Elections Archive (CLEA).
Before his current position Yioryos worked with The SearchLite as an Analyst. He translated client needs into research objectives by implementing five case studies in an iterative process using interviews, secondary research, and surveys to pinpoint risks associated with early-stage technologies in medical, wireless, and agricultural industries. He identified market applications, customer segments, and commercial partners. Yioryos also developed and implemented a statistical framework to quantify and model product-market fit and lead the initiative for incorporating big data from social media to organize, pattern and predict consumer behavior.
Thank you Yioryos for all of your hard work and contributions in the past and present! We truly value you as a peer, alumni, and friend. We look forward to continuously seeing the great things you are destined to accomplish.
“I am currently a Senior Researcher & Research Manager at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research. Around half my time is spent on project management, which includes overseeing data collection, employees and budgets. We work in large teams and the experience I gained working at TSL in teams with diverse backgrounds and interests really helped me transition into my current role.”
